The Arduino RS485 Shield is specifically designed for the Arduino Uno board, allowing it to communicate with industrial devices using the RS485 protocol. RS485 is an industrial standard known for its long-distance communication, anti-interference capabilities, and reliability.

Unlike RS-422, which lacks the ability to deactivate the driver circuit, RS-485 drivers utilize three-state logic, enabling individual transmitters to be switched off. This feature allows for the implementation of linear bus topologies using only two wires. The devices connected along the RS-485 wires are referred to as nodes, stations, or devices interchangeably.

The shield integrates a standard RS485 port, a mini RS485 port, and RS485 headers. It also provides welding areas to maximize the available space, allowing for convenient DIY designs. The shield offers the flexibility to switch between automatic mode and manual transmission mode, expanding its range of applications.

In addition to the Tx/Rx interface, the shield includes a switch that can block or disable its functionality when programming the Arduino is required.
