Raspberry Pi Camera Module 2 was introduced in April 2016, replacing the original camera module.

Features a Sony IMX219 8-megapixel sensor, an upgrade from the original 5-megapixel OmniVision OV5647 sensor. Designed for high-definition video recording and still photography.

• Supports multiple video modes: 1080p30, 720p60, and VGA90.
• Can capture high-quality still images with improved resolution, color accuracy, and low-light performance.
• 15cm ribbon cable connects to the CSI port on any Raspberry Pi model (1, 2, 3, and 4).
• Compatible with MMAL and V4L APIs, along with third-party libraries like the Picamera Python library.
• Requires a Raspberry Pi Zero camera cable for Raspberry Pi Zero models, as the standard cable is not compatible.
• Commonly used in home security setups and wildlife camera traps.
