Key Specifications
  • Operating Voltage: 5V (supplied from the Arduino Board)
  • Ethernet Controller: W5500 with internal 32K buffer
  • Connection Speed: 10/100Mb
  • Connection with Arduino: SPI port
Technical Details
  • Chipset: Based on Wiznet W5500 Ethernet chip, providing a network stack capable of both TCP and UDP, supporting up to eight simultaneous socket connections.
  • Pin Layout: Uses long wire-wrap headers to maintain the original pin layout, allowing for stacking with other shields.
  • RJ-45 Connection: Standard connection with integrated line transformer and Power over Ethernet (PoE) enabled.
  • Micro-SD Card Slot: For storing files to serve over the network; accessible through the SD Library.
  • Reset Controller: Ensures proper reset of the W5500 Ethernet module on power-up.
  • Compatibility: Compatible with Arduino Uno and Mega using the Ethernet library.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) Module Features (separate component)
  • Compliance: IEEE802.3af compliant
  • Input Voltage Range: 36V to 57V
  • Protection: Overload and short-circuit protection
  • Output Voltage: 12V
  • Efficiency: High efficiency DC/DC converter: typ 85% @ 80% load
  • Isolation: 1500V isolation (input to output)
Connection and Usage
  • SPI Communication: Arduino communicates with W5500 and SD card using SPI bus through ICSP header.
  • Pin Assignments:
    • Uno: Digital pins 10, 11, 12, and 13 for W5500 and SD card.
    • Mega: Pins 50, 51, and 52 for W5500; pin 4 for SD card.

Note: Pin 10 is used to select W5500, and pin 4 for the SD card; these cannot be used for general I/O.

LED Indicators
  • Power ON: Indicates the board and shield are powered.
  • Built-in LED (Pin 13): Standard Arduino LED indication.
  • Activity Indicator (ACT): Flashes during RX or TX activity.
