The 1.5KE47A is a transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients induced by lightning, inductive load switching, and electrostatic discharge (ESD). Unlike standard diodes used for rectification, this device is engineered to react nearly instantaneously (typically less than 1.0 picosecond) to overvoltage events, clamping the voltage to a safe level to prevent circuit damage. With a 1500 Watt peak power rating, it is significantly more robust than smaller TVS series like the P6KE (600W). It is commonly used in industrial power supplies, telecommunications interfaces, and consumer electronics to protect I/O interfaces and VCC buses. The "A" in its part number signifies it is a unidirectional device, meaning it protects against surges in one direction and acts like a standard diode in the forward direction; for AC or bidirectional signal protection, the 1.5KE47CA variant would be used instead.

Key Features:

  • Reverse Standoff Voltage (VR): 40.2 Volts.
  • Minimum Breakdown Voltage (VBR): 44.7 Volts at 1 mA test current.
  • Maximum Clamping Voltage (VC): 64.8 Volts at peak pulse current.
  • Peak Pulse Current (IPP): 23.5 Amperes.
  • Polarity: Unidirectional (indicated by the "A" suffix; bidirectional versions end in "CA").
