BU806 NPN Silicon Power Darlington Transistor

The BU806 is a high voltage NPN power transistor designed in a Darlington configuration. A Darlington pair consists of two transistors connected such that the current amplified by the first is amplified further by the second, resulting in a very high current gain. This makes the BU806 an excellent choice for applications that require a small input signal to control a large output current. This device was originally developed for use in horizontal deflection circuits for fast switching in black and white television monitors and small screen color displays. Today it is commonly used in automotive ignition systems, switching regulators, and motor control circuits. The integrated anti parallel collector to emitter diode provides protection against inductive kicks, which is essential when driving coils or motors. Because of the high power it handles, it should be mounted to a proper heat sink using the mounting hole in the TO 220 tab.
