UDN2981A 8-Channel Source Driver IC (DIP-18)

The UDN2981A is a rugged 8-channel source driver designed as an interface between low-level logic and high-current loads. Unlike common sink drivers, this device acts as a "source" driver, meaning it connects the load to the positive supply rail when activated. Each of the eight independent channels can deliver up to 500 milliamps, making it an excellent choice for driving relays, solenoids, stepping motors, and LED displays. To ensure reliable operation when switching inductive loads, each output is equipped with an integrated flyback diode to suppress voltage spikes. The device is housed in a 18-pin dual in-line package (DIP-18), providing a robust solution for industrial automation, automotive electronics, and computer peripheral control where high-side switching is required.
