The MAX1232 is a specialized microprocessor supervisory circuit designed to improve system reliability by providing automated housekeeping functions. This device monitors the power supply voltage, verifies software execution via an internal watchdog timer, and provides a debounced manual reset input for physical overrides. During power-up, power-down, or low-voltage brownout conditions, the MAX1232 automatically generates a reset pulse with a minimum duration of 250ms to ensure the processor starts in a known state. The watchdog timer can be programmed for three different timeout periods to monitor software performance and prevent system lockups. With its ultra-low power consumption and lack of external component requirements, the MAX1232 is an ideal solution for computers, industrial controllers, and intelligent instrumentation.

Key Features:

  • Low power consumption design uses only 1/10th the power of the standard DS1232.
  • Precision voltage monitor with adjustable thresholds for 5 or 10 percent supply tolerances.
  • Integrated watchdog timer with digitally programmable timeout settings (150ms, 600ms, or 1.2s).
  • Features a debounced manual reset input for external system override.
  • Standalone operation requires no external components for circuit integration.
