The CD22859E is a CMOS Dual-Tone Multifrequency (DTMF) Generator IC, designed for telephone dialing applications. It provides a highly stable tone generation system that directly interfaces with push-button telephone keypads, eliminating the need for external frequency generators.

The on-chip reference oscillator operates with a 3.579545MHz TV crystal, ensuring high-frequency accuracy. The IC generates dual-tone sinusoidal dialing tones using digital synthesis techniques. With on-chip mute control, the CD22859E can directly interface with external PNP transistors to mute audio transmission and reception during dialing.
