A 32 pin IC socket is a mechanical connector used to provide a removable interface for integrated circuits with 32 pins. It allows for the easy replacement or upgrading of chips without the need for desoldering, which protects the sensitive semiconductor from heat damage during assembly and repair. These sockets are typically designed for Dual In Line Package components, often referred to as wide body chips.
